This powerful work makes so much available to anyone who is looking to upgrade the present state of their brain function. This weekend I took a cutting edge workshop in creating community and many of the exercises were based on the brain science of Dr. Feldenkrais. Learning how to pay attention to what already is, for example your listening style, your way of dealing with stress, your way of participating in communities, or your way of getting up from a chair; then mixing it up, doing it differently, playing with it, loosening your hold on the habitual way of doing it. AND VOILA the brain has some new information to use to create a new option, a more efficient option, a new way of being, and doing. This fabulous work is beginning to enter the public domain in conversations for change. New possibilities not yet imagined become available if we engage the brain in our explorations for upgrade. It is so exciting.

Hi there.

With Judith in California, she asked me to do a guest blog entry, from a mother’s perspective on what’s been happening at the studio with my girl.

Judith has been seeing my daughter Sam since June of 2006. It is just this past summer that we took to heart ‘doing a series of lessons’. We have been doing 8 lessons in the period of 12 days and what a HUGE differentiation that has been!

We changed a couple of things…1 the time of the lesson. For all but 2 of the 8, the lessons are done in the morning after Sam has eaten. She is fed, rested and awake for the lessons. The lessons where Sam slept still went in, but what I notice is that Judith can get to know Sam so much better as she sees how she reacts, what she’s willing to persist with, see how easily or not a movement differentiation that Judith provides can be utilized by Sam. And then there is integration……

At the beginning of our September series, Judith targeted Sam’s pelvis. Sam could always wiggle her hips form side to side and got many compliments on her dancing. However, she could not bring her pelvis forward and back. As you can imagine, this restricted free movement in many, many ways. By the end of the 8 lessons, Sam could move her pelvis back and forth independently and went merrily away from that series finding every way she could to integrate that movement into her daily life…dancing, horseback riding, gymnastics…just showing off for Mom! What a blast!

We are end of our next series where Judith took aim at the brains differentiation of where Sam’s feet are, how they stand. Sam’s right foot always landed rolled over. Her left foot landed more naturally however her left side all the way up was jammed, held tight, clenched. Over the last series, significant progress has been made with the way her right foot is landing…and we can see when Sam unclenches that left side. Truly phenomenal when you consider that Sam’s limbs and feet have been clenched for years and we are seeing significant progress in weeks.

Judith is a tremendously talented practitioner, who truly loves the kids she helps for them to awaken their brain to their bodies and how they are moving. Live changing to all those little lives. We are so very lucky.

The 2nd annual Free Children’s Clinic at Uptown Studio on Oct 17, 2009 was a fabulous success. We introduced this wonderful work to 27 families and gave 23 lessons to the children. The children came from far and wide…Milton, Niagara, Buffalo NY.

We are so excited to be on the front lines of this conversation for what’s possible for these kids now that we know that movement is such an efficient way to access the power of the brain. Parents reported immediate changes after the lesson. Some of these include children being calmer, more attentive, more self aware, breathing improvement and walking better.

These small changes are the baby steps along the road to significant transformation and having these children reach their real potential. It is such an honour to be part of this work.

I am really excited to announce that we have 24 children scheduled to attend the Free Children’s Clinic on Saturday October 17th, 2009. Practitioners from as far away as Florida and as close as Waterloo, will be coming to donate their time and expertise. Children from places like New Jersey, Buffalo and Owen Sound will be benefiting from their extensive experience.

With Anat’s new book, Move into Live, The Nine Essentials for Vitality, so many more people are learning about the power of neuro-plasticity. Mothers talk and they are talking in places like Arizona about being in California and seeing the power of Anat’s work first hand.

The possibilities of neuro-plasticity and the idea that the brain can change itself to build new neural networks and become more efficient in thinking and movement, holds so much promise for these children. It truly is the new paradigm for transformation.

If you know of anyone in your circle that could benefit from this event, please contact the studio.

Its inherent ability to change its shape to accomodate many different actions and trajectories of movement. In the brilliant Awareness through Movement lessons generated by Moshe Feldenkrais an exploration of “what’s possible” becomes available. Creating direct access to the brain through self-awareness, the lessons offer an in-depth experience of using oneself more fully, engaging parts of ourselves that haven’t moved forever.Hope you can join us next week.
